Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Prepare to go to this town whose inhabitants are oppressors, for if Allah wills, Allah Almighty will grant you victory over it." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) meant Khaybar. (The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also said:) "Let no one set out with me whose riding animal is difficult (that is, not under control) or whose (animal) is weak." The narrator says: Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) went to his mother and said: "Provide me with equipment, for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has ordered us to take part in battle." She said: "You will go away, when you know that whenever I enter the place of relief (the toilet), you are with me?" Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I will not stay behind the Messenger of Allah." So she pointed to her breast and implored him by the milk she had nursed him with. Then she came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and told him about this, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go back; your matter will be resolved." When Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) came, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned his face away from him. He said: "O Messenger of Allah, I see that you have turned away from me, and I think that some news has reached you because of which this has happened." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Are you the one whose mother was imploring you and invoking the milk she nursed you with? Does any one of you think that when his parents, or one of them, are with him, he is not in the way of Allah? Such a person is in the way of Allah when he treats them both well and fulfils their right." Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "After that I remained for two years without taking part in any battle, until my mother passed away." After this the narrator mentioned the complete hadith; this complete hadith will come later in the chapter on the Battle of Khaybar.
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains Ali bin Yazid al-Alhani, and he is da'if (weak).
