Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 9622

Sayyiduna Rafi' bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: My paternal uncle and I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); at that time the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to take part in the Battle of Badr. I said: "O Messenger of Allah, I too wish to set out with you." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began to close his hand and said: "I consider you too young, and I do not know what you will do when you face the enemy." I said: "Do you know that I am the best archer of all who shoot?" But the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned me back, and so I could not take part in the Battle of Badr.
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains Rifa'ah bin Hurayr, and he is da'if (weak). Some hadiths of this kind will come in the book on the military campaigns, in the chapter on the Battle of Uhud.
