Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah bin Hudayj (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I was with Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah bin Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) when a letter came to him from one of his governors, in which he reported that he had attacked the Turks and routed them, had killed a great many of them, and had taken a great deal of spoils. Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) became angry at this, and he ordered that it be written to him: "I have understood what you mentioned about those you killed and the spoils you took, but let me not learn that you have gone back to any of that; do not fight these people until my order reaches you." Mu'awiyah bin Hudayj says: I asked him: "O Commander of the Believers, what is the reason for this?" He said: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "The Turks will certainly prevail over the Arabs, until they drive them to the places where shih (a kind of grass) and qaysum (a plant) grow." So for this reason I dislike fighting these people.
Abu Ya'la recorded it. Its chain contains a group of narrators whom I do not know.
