وَعَنْ عُتْبَةَ بْنِ النُّدَّرِ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " إِذَا انْتَاطَ غَزْوُكُمْ وَاسْتُحِلَّتِ الْغَنَائِمُ وَكَثُرَتِ الْغَرَائِمُ فَخَيْرُ جِهَادِكُمُ الرِّبَاطُ " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ وَفِيهِ سُوَيْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ وَهُوَ مَتْرُوكٌ .

Sayyiduna Utbah bin al-Nuddar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When your military expeditions are cut off, spoils of war are treated as lawful, and penalties become many, then the best of your jihad is guarding the frontier (ribat)."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Suwayd bin Abd al-Aziz, who is matruk (abandoned).
