وَعَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَوْهَبٍ أَنَّهُ كَانَ عِنْدَ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ ، فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ مَرْوَانُ فَكَلَّمَهُ فِي حَوَائِجِهِ ، فَقَالَ : اقْضِ حَاجَتِي يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ، فَوَاللَّهِ إِنَّ مُؤْنَتِي لَعَظِيمَةٌ ، أَصْبَحْتُ أَبَا عَشْرَةٍ ، وَأَخَا عَشْرَةٍ ، وَعَمَّ عَشْرَةٍ ، فَلَمَّا أَدْبَرَ مَرْوَانُ ، وَابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ جَالِسٌ مَعَ مُعَاوِيَةَ عَلَى سَرِيرِهِ فَقَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ : أَنْشُدُكَ اللَّهَ يَا ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ أَمَا تَعْلَمُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَ : " إِذَا بَلَغَ بَنُو أَبِي الْحَكَمِ ثَلَاثِينَ رَجُلًا اتَّخَذُوا آيَاتِ اللَّهِ بَيْنَهُمْ دُوَلًا ، وَعِبَادَ اللَّهِ خَوَلًا ، وَكِتَابَهُ دَخَلًا ، فَإِذَا بَلَغُوا سَبْعَةً وَتِسْعِينَ وَأَرْبَعَمِائَةٍ كَانَ هَلَاكُهُمْ أَسْرَعَ مِنَ التَّمْرَةِ " قَالَ : اللَّهُمَّ نَعَمْ . فَذَكَرَ مَرْوَانُ حَاجَةً لَهُ ، فَرَدَّ مَرْوَانُ عَبْدَ الْمَلِكِ إِلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ فَكَلَّمَهُ فِيهَا فَلَمَّا أَدْبَرَ قَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ : أَنْشُدُكَ اللَّهَ يَا ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ أَمَا تَعْلَمُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - ذَكَرَ هَذَا فَقَالَ : " أَبُو الْجَبَابِرَةِ الْأَرْبَعَةِ ؟ " قَالَ : اللَّهُمَّ نَعَمْ . فَلِذَلِكَ ادَّعَى مُعَاوِيَةُ زِيَادًا .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَفِيهِ ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ وَفِيهِ ضَعْفٌ ، وَحَدِيثُهُ حَسَنٌ .

Abdullah bin Mawhab narrates that he was with Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah bin Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him). Marwan came to him and spoke with him about his needs. He said: "O Commander of the Believers! Fulfil my need, for by Allah my expenses are great: I am the father of ten, the brother of ten and the paternal uncle of ten." When Marwan left, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) was sitting with Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) on his couch. Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Ibn Abbas! I ask you by Allah: do you know that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'When the sons of Abu al-Hakam reach thirty, they will make the verses of Allah Almighty a commodity passed among themselves, they will make the servants of Allah slaves, and they will meddle with His Book; and when they reach four hundred and ninety-seven, their destruction will come faster than (the eating of) a date'?" Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: "Allah knows; yes!" Marwan had mentioned a need of his. Then Marwan sent Abd al-Malik back to Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him), and he spoke with him about it. When he left, Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Ibn Abbas! I ask you by Allah: do you know that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned this man and said: 'This is the father of four tyrants'?" Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: "Allah knows; yes!" The narrator states: It was for this reason that Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) claimed Ziyad (as his brother).
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Ibn Lahi'ah, in whom there is weakness, and his hadith is hasan (good).
