Sayyiduna Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrate: Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) sent Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) to Kufah as governor, and instructed him to sit for the people and not to screen himself off from them. Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) received news that he was screening himself off from the people and keeping the door shut against them (that is, he was not meeting the people). So Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) sent Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him) and instructed him that if he arrived and the door was shut, he should set it on fire; and if it was morning, he should set off with him (Sayyiduna Sa'd) that evening, and if it was evening, he should set off with him the next morning. When Sayyiduna Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Kufah, he burned that door and sent him off (to Sayyiduna Umar).
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains Ata' bin al-Sa'ib, who had become confused (ikhtilat) in his memory.
