Qays bin Abi Hazim narrates: I saw Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) with a palm branch in his hand, making the people sit down and saying: "Listen to and obey the caliph of the Messenger of Allah!" A slave of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), whose name was Sadid, came bringing a document, which he read out to the people, and he said: "Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) says: You are to listen to and obey the one whose name is mentioned in this document. By Allah, I have not fallen short in regard to you." Qays bin Abi Hazim says: After that I saw Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) on the pulpit.
Ahmad recorded it; its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
