Sayyidah Umm al-Fadl (may Allah be pleased with her) and Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrate about the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up during the night in Makkah and said: "O Allah, have I conveyed (the message)?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said this three times. Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up, and he was a man who sighed much (out of tenderness of heart), and he said: O Allah! Yes! You (peace and blessings be upon him) have conveyed, striven your utmost and given sincere counsel, the result of which was this. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Faith will surely prevail, until disbelief is driven back to its own places, Islam will spread across the seas, and a time will come upon people in which they will acquire the knowledge of the Qur'an; they will learn it and recite it, and then they will say: We have recited and we have acquired knowledge, so who is there who is better than us? Will there be any harm in such people?" The people said: O Messenger of Allah! Who will those people be? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "They will be from among you (that is, from this Ummah), and they will be the fuel of the Fire."
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy), except that the case of Hind bint al-Harith al-Khath'amiyyah, who is a Tabi'iyyah, is different: I have not seen anyone declare her trustworthy or criticise her.
