وَعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ قَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ عُطَارِدًا التَّمِيمِيَّ كَانَ يُقِيمُ حُلَّةَ حَرِيرٍ ، فَلَوِ اشْتَرَيْتَهَا فَلَبِسْتَهَا إِذَا جَاءَكَ وُفُودُ النَّاسِ ؟ فَقَالَ : " إِنَّمَا يَلْبَسُ الْحَرِيرَ مَنْ لَا خَلَاقَ لَهُ " .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَالْبَزَّارُ بِنَحْوِهِ وَرِجَالُ أَحْمَدَ ثِقَاتٌ .

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah, Utarid al-Tamimi is selling a silk suit (hullah). If you were to buy it and wear it when delegations of people come to you (that would be fitting)." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Silk is worn only by one who will have no share (in the Hereafter)."
Imam Ahmad recorded it, and Imam al-Bazzar recorded something similar. The narrators of Imam Ahmad are thiqat (trustworthy).
