وَعَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ : خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فِي غَزْوَةٍ ، فَبَيْنَا أَنَا نَازِلٌ مَعَهُ تَحْتَ شَجَرَةٍ ، إِذْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ هَلُمَّ إِلَى الظِّلِّ ، فَنَزَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَوَجَدْتُ فِي السُّفْرَةِ جَرْوَ قِثَّاءٍ ، فَقَالَ : " مِنْ أَيْنَ لَكُمْ هَذَا ؟ " فَذَكَرَ كَلِمَةً ، ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ رَجُلٌ وَعَلَيْهِ ثَوْبَانِ قَدْ خَلَقَا فَنَظَرَ إِلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَقَالَ : " أَمَا لَهُ ثَوْبَانِ غَيْرُ هَذَيْنِ ؟ " فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ لَهُ ثَوْبَانِ فِي الْعَيْبَةِ كَسَوْتَهُ إِيَّاهُمَا . قَالَ : " فَادْعُهُ فَمُرْهُ فَلْيَلْبَسْهُمَا " فَدَعَوْتُهُ فَلَبِسَهُمَا ثُمَّ وَلَّى يَذْهَبُ ، فَقَالَ : " مَا لَهُ ؟ ضَرَبَ اللَّهُ عُنُقَهُ أَلَيْسَ هَذَا خَيْرٌ " . فَسَمِعَهُ الرَّجُلُ فَرَجَعَ فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ؟ فَقَالَ : " فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ " . فَقُتِلَ الرَّجُلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ .
رَوَاهُ الْبَزَّارُ بِأَسَانِيدَ وَرِجَالُ أَحَدِهِمَا رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .
وَقَدْ رَوَاهُ مَالِكٌ فِي الْمُوَطَّأِ وَقَالَ فِيهِ : " مِنْ أَيْنَ لَكُمْ هَذَا ؟ " . فَقُلْتُ : مِنَ الْمَدِينَةِ .
رَوَاهُ الْبَزَّارُ بِأَسَانِيدَ وَرِجَالُ أَحَدِهِمَا رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .
وَقَدْ رَوَاهُ مَالِكٌ فِي الْمُوَطَّأِ وَقَالَ فِيهِ : " مِنْ أَيْنَ لَكُمْ هَذَا ؟ " . فَقُلْتُ : مِنَ الْمَدِينَةِ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: We set out with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on a military expedition. Once, when I had stopped with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) under a tree, I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, come into the shade." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) dismounted. I found a small cucumber in the food bag. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Where did you get this from?" Then the narrator mentioned a word. Then a man turned and walked away, wearing two garments that had become worn out. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) looked at him and said: "Does he not have other clothes besides these?" I said: "O Messenger of Allah, he has two garments in the bag, which you gave him to wear." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Call him and tell him to wear them." I called the man; he put both of them on and then turned and went away. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What is the matter with him? May Allah strike his neck! Is this not better?" The man heard this, so he came back and said: "In the path of Allah (will my neck be struck)?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "In the path of Allah." (The narrator says:) And that man was martyred in the path of Allah.
Imam al-Bazzar recorded it with several chains, one of which has narrators who are the narrators of the Sahih.
Imam Malik recorded it in the "Muwatta", and in it he transmitted these words: "Where did you people get this from?" I said: "From Madinah."
