It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I said: "O Messenger of Allah, is it part of arrogance that I have a hullah (suit of garments) which I wear?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No." I said: "Is it part of arrogance that I have a mount which I ride?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No." I said: "Is it part of arrogance that I prepare food and invite my friends?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No! Arrogance is that you reject the truth and look down on people."
Imam al-Bazzar recorded it. Imam Ahmad recorded it within a long hadith that has already passed in the chapter on the counsel of Sayyiduna Nuh (peace be upon him) in Kitab al-Wasaya (the Book of Bequests). The narrators of Imam Ahmad are thiqat (trustworthy).
