Imam al-Sha'bi narrates: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Beware of saying: What is your view? What is your view? For those before you were destroyed by saying: What is your view? What is your view? And do not compare one thing to another by analogy, for feet will slip after being firm. When someone is asked about something of which he has no knowledge, he should say: I do not know, for this (saying: I do not know) is one third of knowledge.
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Imam al-Sha'bi did not hear from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), and its chain contains a narrator, Jabir al-Ju'fi, who is da'if (weak).
