Sayyiduna Amir bin Rabi'ah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sahl bin Hunayf (may Allah be pleased with him) and I set out to look for donkeys. In one place we found the donkeys and also found a pool of water. The narrator says: Each of us felt shy to bathe while someone was watching him, so Sahl screened himself from me. When he saw that he was out of sight, he took off the cloak he had on him, worn as a jubbah, and entered the water. When I looked at him, his physique pleased me, and my eye struck him. A trembling seized him while he was still in the water. I called him, but he did not answer me. I went to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and told him about it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Remove its heat, its cold and its pain." Then he said: "Stand up!" When he stood up, he said: "When a person sees something that pleases him in himself, in his wealth or in his brother, he should pray for blessing, for the evil eye is real." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Ibn Majah reported only this part of this narration: "The evil eye is real."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Umayyah bin Hind, and he is mastur (of unknown standing), and no one has declared him da'if (weak); the remaining narrators of this report are the narrators of the Sahih.
