Majma al-Zawaid 840 — Independent reasoning (ijtihad)
وَعَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ - رَفَعَهُ - قَالَ : " لَيْسَ أَحَدٌ إِلَّا يُؤْخَذُ مِنْ قَوْلِهِ وَيُدَعُ غَيْرَ النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ ، وَرِجَالُهُ مُوَثَّقُونَ .

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) reports this as a marfu' hadith: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The word of anyone other than the Prophet may be accepted and may also be left (that is, the word of the Prophet cannot be left)."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators have been declared trustworthy.
