Sayyiduna Abu Umamah bin Sahl bin Hunayf (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Sayyiduna As'ad bin Zurarah (may Allah be pleased with him), who was afflicted with an ailment called "al-shawkah". The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had him cauterised on his neck, and he passed away. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What an evil death for the Jews, who say: 'His companion treated him, and it did not benefit him.'"
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
