وَعَنْ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنْ نَزَلَ بِنَا أَمْرٌ لَيْسَ فِيهِ بَيَانُ أَمْرٍ وَلَا نَهْيٍ ، فَمَا تَأْمُرُنِي ؟ قَالَ : " شَاوِرُوا [ فِيهِ ] الْفُقَهَاءَ وَالْعَابِدِينَ ، وَلَا تَمْضُوا فِيهِ رَأْيَ خَاصَّةٍ " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ ، وَرِجَالُهُ مُوَثَّقُونَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الصَّحِيحِ .

Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I said: O Messenger of Allah, if a matter befalls us in which there is no clear statement of a command or a prohibition, what do you instruct me? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Consult the jurists and the worshippers (about it), and do not carry out the opinion of any one particular person in it."
