Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 829

Sayyiduna Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Once a man said to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): When the Confederates (that is, the armies of the polytheists) come, forbid the people of Madinah from watering the date palms. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If I were to forbid it to you, you would be burnt (ruined). The prohibition of the prophets is something that even the mountains do not have the strength to bear.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its chain is hasan (good).
