Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was present, and with him were Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Abu Ubaydah bin al-Jarrah (may Allah be pleased with him), along with some other Companions. Meanwhile a cup containing a drink was brought. the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) held out the cup to Sayyiduna Abu Ubaydah (may Allah be pleased with him), and Sayyiduna Abu Ubaydah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah! You are more entitled to it." the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take it." Sayyiduna Abu Ubaydah (may Allah be pleased with him) took it, and before drinking he said once more: "O Prophet of Allah! You take it." the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Drink! For blessing is with our elders. Whoever does not show mercy to our young and does not honour our elders is not one of us."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration via Abu Abd al-Malik from al-Qasim, and I do not know the narrator named Abu Abd al-Malik. The remaining narrators of this narration are thiqat (trustworthy), and there is criticism of some of them that does no harm.
