عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " مَا هَلَكَتْ سَدُومُ وَمَا حَوْلَهَا مِنَ الْقُرَى حَتَّى اسْتَاكُوا بِالْمَسَاوِيكِ وَمَضَغُوا الْعِلْكَ فِي الْمَجَالِسِ " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَفِيهِ سَوَّارُ بْنُ مُصْعَبٍ وَهُوَ مَتْرُوكٌ .

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The people of Sodom and the towns around it were not destroyed until they took to using the miswak while chewing gum in their gatherings."
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains Sawwar bin Mus'ab, who is matruk (abandoned).
