It is reported about Sayyiduna Imam Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that he once entered the place of ablution and found a morsel (the narrator is unsure; perhaps the words are:) a piece of bread, lying in the passage of excrement and urine (that is, a drain or the like). He picked it up, removed the filth from it, washed it thoroughly, and then handed it to his slave and said to him: "O slave! When I have finished my ablution, remind me of this." When he had finished his ablution, he said to the slave: "O slave! Hand me that morsel" (the narrator is unsure; perhaps the words are:) "hand me that piece." He said: "O my master! I have eaten it." Sayyiduna Imam Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Go, you are free for the pleasure of Allah." The slave asked him: "O my master! Why have you freed me?" Sayyiduna Imam Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her), the daughter of the Messenger of Allah, mention from her father, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) (the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:) "Whoever finds a morsel (the narrator is unsure; perhaps the words are:) a piece of bread in the passage of excrement or urine, then picks it up, removes the filth from it, washes it thoroughly and then eats it, he is forgiven before that food settles in his stomach." (Sayyiduna Imam Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) said:) So I will not take service from a man who is among the people of Paradise.
Imam Abu Ya'la recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
