وَعَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ - يَعْنِي : ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ - أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَ : " مَنْ نَسِيَ أَنْ يَذْكُرَ اسْمَ اللَّهِ فِي أَوَّلِ طَعَامِهِ فَلْيَقُلْ حِينَ يَذْكُرُ : بِاسْمِ اللَّهِ فِي أَوَّلِهِ وَآخِرِهِ ، فَإِنَّهُ يَسْتَقْبِلُ طَعَامًا جَدِيدًا ، وَيَمْنَعُ الْخَبِيثَ مَا كَانَ يُصِيبُ مِنْهُ " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ وَالْكَبِيرِ وَرِجَالُهُ ثِقَاتٌ .

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever forgets to mention the name of Allah at the beginning of his food, then when he remembers, he should say: 'Bismillahi fi awwalihi wa akhirihi' (In the name of Allah, at its beginning and at its end). He will then begin his food anew, and it will stop the wicked one from what he had been getting from it."
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat and al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
