Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 7861

Abu Wa'il narrates: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Hudhafah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "O Messenger of Allah! Who is my father?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Your father is Hudhafah. The child belongs to the owner of the bed, and for the fornicator there is deprivation." He said, "Had you attributed my lineage to an Abyssinian man, I would have followed him." Later his mother said, "You exposed me to (disgrace)." He said, "I wanted to gain peace of mind."
Tabarani recorded it.
This narration is mursal, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
