Sayyidah Umm al-Tufayl (may Allah be pleased with her), who was the wife (or umm walad) of Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him), narrates that she heard Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) debating, and Sayyidah Umm al-Tufayl (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "Why does Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) not ask Subay'ah al-Aslamiyyah, whose husband died while she was pregnant, and a few days after that she gave birth, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had her married?"
Ahmad recorded it. Al-Tabarani recorded it as a more complete narration. Its chain contains a narrator, Ibn Lahi'ah, whose hadith is hasan (good), and there is weakness in him. The remaining narrators of this narration are thiqat (trustworthy).
