Amr bin Shurahbil bin Amr bin Sa'id bin Sa'd bin Ubadah narrates from his father, from his grandfather: Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) was once present with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: "O Messenger of Allah! If I find a man on my wife's belly, shall I strike him with my sword?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What evidence could be clearer than the sword?" The narrator says: Then he went back on his statement and said: "The Book of Allah (is to be acted upon) and witnesses (are to be produced)." Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah! What evidence could be clearer than the sword?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Book of Allah (is to be acted upon) and witnesses (are to be produced). O company of the Ansar! This is your chief; anger has overtaken him, to the point that he wants to go against (the ruling of) the Book of Allah." The narrator says: A man said: "O Messenger of Allah! Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) is sharp-tempered; whenever he divorced a woman, none of us could marry that woman because of his sharp temper." The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Sa'd is protectively jealous, and I am more protectively jealous than him, and Allah Almighty is even more protectively jealous than me." A man said: "Over what does Allah Almighty become angry?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Over a man who goes out to strive in the path of Allah, when someone goes in to his wife in his absence."
Ahmad and Tabarani recorded it; the narrators of Ahmad are thiqat (trustworthy).
