Sayyiduna Abu Juhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A delegation of the tribe of Abd al-Qays came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). They were wearing striped woollen cloaks, and signs of hardship were evident on them. Seeing their condition grieved the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He went into his house, then came out, ordered charity to be given and encouraged it. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Let one give a sa' of his wheat in charity, and let one give a sa' of his dates in charity. The narrator said: (First) a man brought a bag and set it down, then people brought things one after another, until a great deal of clothing and food had been gathered. Then the face of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began to shine, as if it were made of gold. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever initiates a good deed and it is acted upon after him, he receives the reward of that deed, and a reward like that of those who acted upon it, without anything being reduced from their reward; and whoever initiates an evil deed and it is acted upon after him, its sin will be upon him, as well as the sin of those who act upon it, without anything being reduced from their sin." (Al-Haythami says:) I say: Ibn Majah has recorded part of it.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains Ghassan bin al-Rabi', whom Ibn Hibban declared thiqah (trustworthy), while al-Daraqutni and others declared him da'if (weak).
