Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 7626

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A woman will never become straight for you in every respect. She is like a rib: if you try to straighten it, you will break it; and if you leave it as it is, you will benefit from her while there is crookedness in her." In one narration the words are: "And breaking her means divorcing her."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains Suwayd bin Abd al-Aziz, whom Duhaym and Hushaym declared thiqah (trustworthy) while the majority declared him da'if (weak). The rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
