Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 7544

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Sayyiduna Salman al-Farisi (may Allah be pleased with him) returned after (a long) absence, and he met Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: "May Allah be pleased with you." The narrator says: He had married in Kindah. When the night came on which his bride was to be brought to him, the house was full and there were women in it. He asked: "Has the Ka'bah moved to Kindah, or is this woman of mine red-complexioned? My intimate friend, Sayyiduna Abu al-Qasim (peace and blessings be upon him), commanded me that we should keep no more belongings than a traveller's provisions, and keep no more women than those we marry." So the women left the house, and he went in to his wife and said: "O lady! Will you obey me or disobey me?" She replied: "I will obey you in whatever you wish." Sayyiduna Salman al-Farisi (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "My intimate friend commanded me that when one of us goes in to his wife, he should stand and pray, and instruct her to stand behind him and pray, and he should supplicate and she should say Amin." The narrator says: So Sayyiduna Salman al-Farisi (may Allah be pleased with him) did so, and his wife did so too. The next day, when he was sitting in a gathering of the people of Kindah, a man asked him: "O Abu Abdullah! How are you? How did you find your wife?" He remained silent. The man asked again, so Sayyiduna Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: "What is the matter with one of you, that he asks about something that walls and doors have concealed? It is enough for any of you that if he asks about something, then if he is given an answer, that is fine, and if he is not given an answer (that is also fine)."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in this way.
