Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught us the marriage sermon, and he recited: "Indeed all praise belongs to Allah. We praise Him, we seek His help, and we seek refuge in Allah from the evil of our own selves and from the wickedness of our deeds. Whomever Allah guides, none can lead astray, and whomever He leaves astray, none can guide. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, He alone, without any partner, and I bear witness that Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His servant and His Messenger." A narrator named Abu Ubaydah says: I heard Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) say: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say: "If you wish, add some verses of the Qur'an to it. Recite: 'Fear Allah as He should be feared, and do not die except as Muslims.' 'And fear Allah, through whom you ask of one another, and (respect) the ties of kinship. Indeed Allah is ever a Watcher over you.' 'Fear Allah and speak words that are upright; He will set right your deeds for you and forgive you your sins. Whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has attained a great success.' Amma ba'd (to proceed). Then speak about your need." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say:
Imam Abu Dawud and others recorded it, but they did not record the narration of Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him).
Imam Abu Ya'la and Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir he recorded it in abridged form. Its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy). The hadith narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) is muttasil (with a connected chain), and the narrator Abu Ubaydah did not hear from his father.
