Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) states: We set out, and with us were the women with whom we used to contract mut'ah, until we came to the hill of departure. We said: "O Messenger of Allah! These are the women with whom we used to contract mut'ah." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "They are now unlawful until the Day of Resurrection." Then those women bade us farewell there, and for this reason that pass was named Thaniyyat al-Wada' (the pass of farewell), whereas before that it was Thaniyyat al-Rikab (that is, the pass of the riders).
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains Sadaqah bin Abdullah, whom Abu Hatim declared thiqah (trustworthy), while Ahmad and a group called him da'if (weak); the rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
