Abu Atiyyah narrates: A man came to Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: His wife's breast became swollen, and he began to suck it and spit it out, and some milk went into his stomach. Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I think that woman is no longer proper (that is, lawful) for you." Then that man came to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked him about it. He said: "That woman has not become unlawful for you. The breastfeeding that establishes prohibition is that which produces flesh and strengthens the bones, and breastfeeding is not established after weaning." Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) was told about this, and he said: "Do not ask me about any matter as long as this man from among the Companions of the Messenger of Allah is present among us."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Abd al-Rahman bin Abdullah al-Mas'udi, who is thiqah (trustworthy), but his memory became confused (ikhtilat).
