Book of Freeing Slaves
بَابٌ فِيمَنْ أَعْتَقَ رَقَبَةً مُؤْمِنَةً .

عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَ : " لَا طَلَاقَ إِلَّا لِعِدَّةٍ ، وَلَا عِتْقَ إِلَّا لِوَجْهِ اللَّهِ " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَفِيهِ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ فَرْقَدٍ ، وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ .

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) reports this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Divorce is only for the waiting period ('iddah), and freeing (a slave) is only for the sake of Allah Almighty."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Ahmad bin Sa'id bin Farqad, who is da'if (weak).
