Sayyiduna Ghaylan bin Salamah al-Thaqafi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Nafi' Abu al-Sa'ib, who was the slave of Ghaylan, ran away and came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). This was at the time when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was besieging Ta'if. He accepted Islam, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) declared him free. When Sayyiduna Ghaylan (may Allah be pleased with him) accepted Islam, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) returned the wala' of Nafi' to him.
Al-Bazzar recorded it, and he said: To our knowledge, only this hadith is narrated from Sayyiduna Ghaylan (may Allah be pleased with him). (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Its chain contains Urwah bin Ghaylan, whom I do not know; the rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
