Sayyidah Umaymah (may Allah be pleased with her), the freed slave woman of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), narrates: Once I was pouring water for ablution over the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when a man came in and said: "Give me counsel." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not associate anything with Allah, even if you are cut to pieces or burned with fire. Do not disobey your parents, even if they both order you to leave your family and your world; then leave. Never drink wine, for it is the key to every evil. Do not deliberately abandon the prayer, for whoever does so, the protection of Allah and His Messenger is removed from him. Never flee from the battlefield, for whoever does so returns with the displeasure of Allah Almighty, his abode will be Hell, and it is an evil destination. Do not add anything to the boundary markers of your land, for whoever does so will come on the Day of Resurrection with (a collar weighing) the amount of seven earths on his neck. Spend on your family according to your means, do not put your stick aside from them, and keep making them fear Allah Almighty."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains Yazid bin Sinan al-Rahawi, whom Imam al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) and others declared thiqah (trustworthy), while most declared him da'if (weak); the rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
