Ya'qub bin Abdullah narrates from his father, from his grandfather, who said: We came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and submitted to him (peace and blessings be upon him): "May our fathers and mothers be ransomed for you (peace and blessings be upon him), O Messenger of Allah! We hear a hadith from you, but we are not able to convey it exactly as we heard it." (The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:) "When conveying the meaning of a narration, if you do not make something forbidden lawful or make something lawful forbidden, and you convey the meaning correctly, then there is no harm in it."
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; I have not seen anyone who has mentioned Ya'qub or his father.
