Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 692

Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Whoever relates something just as he heard it, then if it was something righteous and true, you and he will both have its reward; and if it was a lie, its burden will be on the one who started it."
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Ja'far bin al-Zubayr, who is a kadhdhab (liar).
