Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 6787

Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that she was removing lice from the head of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when Zaynab, the wife of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), came. She began talking with me and I began talking with her, and I raised my eyes and looked at her. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Turn to her with your ears only; you are not talking to her with your eyes. Zaynab said: I wanted to complain about the narrowness of my house. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The wife of Uthman bin Maz'un also did the same; the situation that had come upon her was beyond her endurance, until it came down upon her head. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Likewise, whichever of the Muhajir women marks out a plot in Madinah, she will receive according to the mark she made. The narrator says: So that lady inherited her share in the house of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), and she kept her own house in Madinah (that is, that too remained with her).
Imam Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Qays bin Rabi', whom Shu'bah and others declared thiqah (trustworthy), and Yahya bin Ma'in and others declared da'if (weak).
