Sayyiduna Utbah bin al-Nuddar (may Allah be pleased with him) states: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked: Which of the two terms did Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) complete? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The one that was more virtuous and more complete. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) intended to part from Sayyiduna Shu'ayb (peace be upon him), he instructed his wife to request her father to give them enough of his goats for them to live on. Sayyiduna Shu'ayb (peace be upon him) said to that woman: Every goat that this year gives birth to young whose colour differs from its mother's colour (will be theirs). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whenever a goat passed by, Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) would strike its side with his staff, and it would give birth to young of a colour different from its own. It gave birth to thirty-two young, and among them there was no goat that was fashush (one whose teat opening is wide and whose milk keeps dripping without being milked), nor dabub (one whose milk opening is narrow), nor kamishah (one whose teat is so small that it cannot be milked) that slips from the palm (that is, leaves it empty), nor was (any goat) thu'ul (one with an extra teat). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you conquer Syria, you will find the offspring of these goats, and they will be the Samiriyyah.
Imam al-Bazzar recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Ibn Lahi'ah, whose hadith is hasan (good), though there is criticism of him. The remaining narrators of this narration are the narrators of the Sahih, except Umar bin al-Khattab al-Sijistani, who is thiqah (trustworthy); no one has declared him weak.
