Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A Jew came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to demand payment of some dates, and he spoke harshly to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Companions moved towards him, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah Almighty does not grant purity to a nation (the narrator is uncertain; perhaps the words are:) does not have mercy on a nation whose weak members cannot take their right without distress." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a message to Sayyidah Khawlah bint Hakim (may Allah be pleased with her) and asked her for a loan of some dates, and she handed them over. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is how the servants of Allah pay in full. We did have dates, but they were dusty (or of an inferior kind)."
At-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
