عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ قَالَ : سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - عَنِ اسْتِقْرَاضِ الْخَمِيرِ وَالْخُبْزِ ؟ فَقَالَ : " سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ ! إِنَّمَا هِيَ مِنْ مَكَارِمِ الْأَخْلَاقِ ، خُذِ الصَّغِيرَ وَأَعْطِ الْكَبِيرَ ، وَخُذِ الْكَبِيرَ وَأَعْطِ الصَّغِيرَ ، وَخَيْرُكُمْ أَحَسَنُكُمْ قَضَاءً " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ ، وَفِيهِ سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ الْخَبَائِرِيُّ ؛ وَنُسِبَ إِلَى الْكَذِبِ .

Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about borrowing kneaded dough and bread, and he said: "Subhan Allah (Glory be to Allah)! This is part of good character. Take a small one and give back a large one, or take a large one and give back a small one; and the best among you are those who repay in a good manner."
At-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Sulayman bin Salamah al-Khaba'iri, who has been accused of lying.
