Sa'd bin Iyas narrates: Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) used to permit exchanging one dirham for two dirhams and one dinar for two dinars. Then he went to Madinah, where he met Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and other Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and they forbade him from doing so. When he came back, I saw him going round the money-changers and saying: Woe to you! O people! Do not consume usury (riba), and do not buy one dirham for two dirhams or one dinar for two dinars.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
