Yazid bin Abi Nu'aym narrates: A man from the tribe of Aslam named Ubayd bin Umayr had intercourse with a slave woman; she became pregnant and gave birth to his child, who was named al-Hammam. This was in the Age of Ignorance (Jahiliyyah). (The narrator says:) My uncle came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and spoke with him about his son. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: Try as far as you can to obtain your son. That man went, took his son and brought him to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The master of that boy also came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) offered his master two slaves and said: Take one of these two and leave this man's son. So that man took one slave and left the other.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and
it is mursal; its chain contains a narrator Sufyan bin Waki', who is da'if (weak).
