Sayyiduna Abyad bin Hammal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that he accepted Islam while owning three brothers from Kindah; those three brothers had been his slaves in the Age of Ignorance (Jahiliyyah). He came as a delegate to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) during his caliphate, and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) asked Sayyiduna Abyad bin Hammal (may Allah be pleased with him) to free the slave who served him, and that he would buy that slave's brothers from him in exchange for six slaves from among the captives of Qadisiyyah. So Sayyiduna Abyad bin Hammal (may Allah be pleased with him) did so: he freed the brothers who were with him, and in place of those brothers he took six slaves from among the captives of Qadisiyyah. Then Sayyiduna Abyad bin Hammal (may Allah be pleased with him) told Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) that he had come regarding the officials who had committed injustice after the passing of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), concerning the matter in which Sayyiduna Abyad bin Hammal (may Allah be pleased with him) had agreed with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on the payment of seventy hullahs (garments). So Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) upheld the arrangement on which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had kept them, until Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away; after that, the arrangement was annulled again, and it was counted as sadaqah. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: The part about the agreement on hullahs has been narrated by Abu Dawud.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its chain is hasan (good).
