Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 6462

وَعَنْ سِيرِينَ قَالَتْ : وَرَأَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فُرْجَةً فِي الْقَبْرِ فَأَمَرَ بِهَا أَنْ تُسَدَّ فَقِيلَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ هَلْ تَنْفَعُهُ ؟ قَالَ : " أَمَا إِنَّهَا لَا تَنْفَعُهُ ، وَلَا تَضُرُّهُ ، وَلَكِنْ تَعِرُ عَيْنَ الْحَيِّ " .
قُلْتُ : ذُكِرَ هَذَا فِي حَدِيثٍ طَوِيلٍ فِي مَنَاقِبِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ ، وَفِيهِ الْوَاقِدِيُّ ، وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ ، وَقَدْ وُثِّقَ .
A woman named Sirin narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a gap in a grave and ordered that it be closed. It was said: "O Messenger of Allah! Will this benefit him (the deceased)?" He said: "It will neither benefit him nor harm him, but it will comfort the eyes of the living." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say:
This is reported within a long hadith concerning the virtues of Sayyiduna Ibrahim (may Allah be pleased with him).
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains al-Waqidi, who is da'if (weak), though he has also been declared trustworthy.
