وَعَنْ عَوْفِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - بِمِثْلِ حَدِيثٍ يَأْتِي ، وَهَذَا قَالَ : بَعَثَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فِي سَرِيَّةٍ ، فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ : أَخْرُجُ مَعَكَ عَلَى أَنْ تَجْعَلَ لِي سَهْمًا مِنَ الْمَغْنَمِ . ثُمَّ قَالَ : وَاللَّهِ مَا أَدْرِي أَتَغْنَمُونَ أَمْ لَا ؟ ، وَلَكِنِ اجْعَلْ لِي سَهْمًا مَعْلُومًا . فَجَعَلْتُ لَهُ ثَلَاثَةَ دَنَانِيرَ فَغَزَوْنَا ، فَأَصَبْنَا مَغْنَمًا ، فَسَأَلْتُ النَّبِيَّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - عَنْ ذَلِكَ ؟ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " مَا أُحِلُّ لَهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ إِلَّا دَنَانِيرَهُ هَذِهِ الثَّلَاثَةَ الَّتِي أَخَذَ " .

Sayyiduna Awf bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) a narration similar to one that will come later; in this narration (he says): The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me on a military expedition. A man said: "I will go with you on condition that you give me a share of the spoils." Then he said: "By Allah, I do not even know whether there will be any spoils or not; rather, fix a definite share (that is, a wage) for me." So I fixed three dinars for him. Then we went to battle and obtained spoils. I asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about it, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He will get nothing in this world or the Hereafter except those three dinars that he has taken."
