وَعَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَ : " الْحَيَّاتُ مَسْخُ الْجِنِّ كَمَا مُسِخَتِ الْقِرَدَةُ ، وَالْخَنَازِيرُ مِنْ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ ، وَالْأَوْسَطِ ، وَالْبَزَّارُ بِالِاخْتِصَارِ ، وَرِجَالُهُ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) reports this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Snakes are a transformed form of the jinn, just as apes and swine are a transformed form of the Children of Israel."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, while al-Bazzar recorded it in abridged form; its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
