Sayyiduna Mihjan bin al-Adra' (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me on an errand. Then he was coming along while I was going out by one of the roads of Madinah. He says: I went along with him until he climbed Mount Uhud. He turned towards Madinah and said: "Woe to its mother! It is a town whose inhabitants will leave it, even though its fruit will be ripe for picking (that is, people will not leave it because of famine; rather they will leave even its blessings behind)." He says: I said: "O Messenger of Allah, who will eat its fruit?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The birds and the beasts of prey."
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
