Sayyiduna al-Harith bin Rafi' bin Makith al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that he said to Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him): "We have some goats and some slaves, and we and they live in Tharir. They feed their goats this fruit, that is, the hublah, by beating the tree with a staff." (The narrator says:) This means the fruit of the acacia (samur) tree. Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The leaves of the pasture of the Messenger of Allah shall not be beaten down nor cut; rather, shake (the tree) gently (to bring the leaves down)." Then Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to forbid even the cutting of the masad (palm fibre)." A narrator named Kharijah says: "Masad" means the axle pin of a pulley.
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Imam Abu Dawud recorded this narration in abridged form.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its chain is hasan (good).
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) Further on, hadiths will come that include the meaning of this sanctity, if Allah wills.
