عَنْ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ مُطْعِمٍ سَمِعَ النَّبِيَّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَقُولُ لِعُثْمَانَ بْنِ طَلْحَةَ حِينَ دَفَعَ إِلَيْهِ مِفْتَاحَ الْكَعْبَةِ : " هَاؤُمْ غَيِّبْهُ " ، قَالَ : فَلِذَلِكَ تَغَيَّبَ الْمِفْتَاحُ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ ، وَرِجَالُهُ ثِقَاتٌ .
وَقَدْ تَقَدَّمَ أَمْرُ حِجَابَةِ الْبَيْتِ ، وَالسِّقَايَةِ .

Sayyiduna Jubayr bin Mut'im (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that he heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say to Sayyiduna Uthman bin Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him), when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) handed the key of the Ka'bah over to him: "Here, take it and keep it hidden!" The narrator says: That is why the key is kept hidden.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy). The matter of the custodianship (hijabah) of the House of Allah and the provision of water (siqayah) has already been mentioned earlier.
