Sayyidah Sarra' bint Nabhan (may Allah be pleased with her), who was the mistress of a household in the time of Ignorance, narrates: On the occasion of the Farewell Hajj I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Do you know what day this is?" That lady narrates: This was the day which you call the Day of al-Ru'us. The people replied: "Allah and His Messenger know best." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is the middle day of the Days of Tashriq." He asked: "Do you know what city this is?" The people replied: "Allah and His Messenger know best." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is al-Mash'ar al-Haram." Then he said: "Perhaps I will not meet you after this year. Beware! Your lives, your wealth and your honour are as inviolable to one another as the sanctity of this day of yours, in this month of yours, in this city of yours, and this will remain until you present yourselves before your Lord and He questions you about your deeds. Beware! Let the one who is near convey it to the one who is far. Have I conveyed?" (The female narrator says:) When we came to Madinah, only a short time after that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Imam Abu Dawud has recorded a portion of this narration.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
