وَعَنْ مَكْحُولٍ أَنَّ عُقْبَةَ بْنَ عَامِرٍ أَتَى مَسْلَمَةَ بْنَ مَخْلَدٍ ، وَكَانَ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْبَوَّابِ شَيْءٌ ، فَسَمِعَ صَوْتَهُ فَأَذِنَ لَهُ ، فَقَالَ : إِنِّي لَمْ آتِكَ زَائِرًا ، جِئْتُكَ لِحَاجَةٍ ، أَتَذْكُرُ يَوْمَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنْ عَلِمَ مِنْ أَخِيهِ سَيِّئَةً فَسَتَرَهَا سَتَرَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ " قَالَ : نَعَمْ . قَالَ : لِهَذَا جِئْتُ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ هَكَذَا ، وَفِي الْأَوْسَطِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ قَالَ : خَرَجَ عُقْبَةُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ - فَذَكَرَهُ مُخْتَصَرًا ، وَرِجَالُ الْكَبِيرِ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ هَكَذَا ، وَفِي الْأَوْسَطِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ قَالَ : خَرَجَ عُقْبَةُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ - فَذَكَرَهُ مُخْتَصَرًا ، وَرِجَالُ الْكَبِيرِ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .
Makhul narrates: Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the house of Sayyiduna Maslamah bin Mukhallad (may Allah be pleased with him), and an altercation took place between him and the doorkeeper. Sayyiduna Maslamah (may Allah be pleased with him) heard his voice and gave him permission to come in. Sayyiduna Uqbah (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: "I have not come to you to visit you; rather, I have come for a matter. Do you remember the day when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Whoever comes to know of some fault of his brother and then conceals it, Allah Almighty will conceal (his faults) on the Day of Resurrection'?" Sayyiduna Maslamah (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: "Yes." Sayyiduna Uqbah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "That is what I came for."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in this way in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, while in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat it is reported from Muhammad bin Sirin, who said: Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) set out, and then he mentioned it in abridged form. The narrators of the version in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir are the narrators of the Sahih.
